What is a “Healthcare Hackathon?”

Healthcare is a rapidly changing, technology driven industry that requires innovation and collaboration to drive change. A Healthcare Hackathon is an interdisciplinary multi-day event where participants come together to innovate and create new ideas and products to address problems in the healthcare sector.

At RGVHIE, We Believe That Education Sparks Innovation

The Hackathon will challenge participants to use RGV HIEs FHIR enabled platform to develop mobile healthcare applications, patient engagement solutions, care coordination systems and population health analytics. Potential solutions include an application allowing Health Care Providers to pull patient records onto their own devices, to direct the transfer of their records to an application used by other providers, to send their data into a health or wellness application that will use the clinical data to enhance their service, and more.

Benefits to Participants

There are many reasons why innovators choose to participate in our healthcare hackathon.

Real World Experience

Our healthcare hackathon gives innovators the opportunity to solve real healthcare problems using the latest technology. The exciting, fast-paced environment is very similar to what you would experience at a startup company.

Rewarding Results Plus Up To $1000 Prize!

Creating something from nothing is hard, which is why participating in the hackathon challenge gives you the opportunity to compete for a cash price! There is no greater feeling of accomplishment than working hard with your team to see a solution come to life in a matter of hours, but be the team that takes first place, and earn the bragging rights plus up to $1000!

Build Relationships

At a healthcare hackathon, you will meet hundreds of like-minded individuals who are excited about solving problems in the healthcare industry. Innovators can meet other participants from around the world and make friendships that last beyond the weekend.

Career Preparation

By participating in a healthcare hackathon, innovators will learn important skills that are currently in demand. There will be opportunities to gain experience with the latest technologies as you work to find solutions to the most challenging problems in the healthcare industry.

Who Should Attend

Anyone can participate in hackathons. Coders, Designers, software developers, marketing, and students are welcome. Non-programmers and Subject matter experts are needed because many times these projects are “multidisciplinary” and require a diversity of experiences in order to have a more well-rounded result.
